PADI® Scuba Diver Course

5 Days

PADI® Scuba Diver Course

The PADI® Scuba Diver course is a sub-course of the PADI Open Water Diver course. If you don’t have too much time but really want to become a diver, the PADI Scuba Diver level may be great for you, particularly if you are hoping to dive primarily with a dive guide. This course is an intermediate step towards achieving an Open Water Diver certification, if that is your ultimate goal.

PADI Scuba Divers are qualified to:
Dive under the direct supervision of a PADI Professional to a maximum depth of 12 meters / 40 feet.
Obtain air charges, rent or purchase scuba equipment, and participate in scuba activities as long as they are properly supervised.
Continue diving training by completing the PADI Open Water Diver certification and taking certain specialty diving courses.

To enroll in a PADI Scuba Diver course (or Junior Scuba Diver course), you must be 10 years of age or older. You need to have proper swimming techniques and be in good physical health. No prior diving experience is required, but you can try the Discover Scuba Diving program first.

Academic
The PADI Scuba Diver course consists of three main phases:

Knowledge Development (online, independent study or in the classroom) to understand the basic principles of scuba diving – only the first three sections of the five of the Open Water Diver course.
Confined Water Dives to learn basic scuba skills – just the first three of the five on the Open Water Diver course.
Open Water Dives to use your skills and explore – just two of four on the Open Water Diver course.

Equipment
You will learn to use the basic diving equipment, including a mask, tube, fins, regulator, buoyancy control device and a tank. The equipment you will bring varies, depending on whether you are diving in tropical, temperate or cold waters. Your PADI Instructor will explain the equipment you will need and can suggest additional training materials, such as the required logbook.

Ask us for advice on everything you need for your diving adventures.

Starting
Get started by registering for Open Water Diver Online – PADI’s eLearning option. The web-based system gives you the basic information you need to dive safely and allows you to study at your own pace through an easy-to-use interactive program. You only need to complete the first three sections, but you have one year to finish the full program if you choose to go for your PADI Open Water Diver certification.

There are other home study materials you can choose from including the Open Water Diver TouchTM (an app for tablets) and the Open Water Diver Manual and Open Water Diver Video (a book and DVD package). Stop by your local PADI dive shop to sign up for the course, pick up your supplies, and start reading the book and watching the video. Your PADI Instructor will meet with you to schedule knowledge review sessions and confined water and open water dives.

Frequent Questions

What is PADI® certified?

PADI® is the Professional Association Of Diving Instructors. It is a certification agency, meaning, a group that provides for the training of divers. There are many different certification agency’s in the world, PADI is by far the largest. PADI Instructors have participated in a series of dive training courses from recreational to professional levels to enable us to safely train divers. The PADI system of diver education is fun, easy and safe. When someone is PADI certified, that means the individual has successfully completed a diver course sanctioned by PADI and taught by a PADI Instructor. The individual has demonstrated through academic and practical means that they are capable of safely participating in diving activities up to the level of the certification they hold in conditions equal to or better than what they were certified in. There are many levels of “PADI” certified divers.
